Virgil Don Kraft, 91, passed away on November 15, 2025, from complications of a lung infection in the UC Health Greeley Hospital following two months of nursing care at Pelican Point Rehabilitation Center. His physical strength and memory had deteriorated in recent months. Virgil was born on December 8, 1933, to Carl and Mollie (Lehr) Kraft.
He attended Windsor’s schools and graduated from Windsor High School in 1951. Virgil obtained his BSEE (bachelor’s in electrical engineering) degree from CU, located in Boulder, in 1955. The following year, in 1956, he married Donna Mae Erbes at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Windsor. After the following year in Inglewood, CA, his family, including his son, Steven, moved to Denver, CO, and in 1991, made his final move to a home in Superior, CO.
He spent his entire working life employed by Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) and was involved in numerous space projects, including Titan ICBM, Viking Mars Lander, Skylab space station, and others.
After retirement, he found enjoyment in playing golf, hiking with his family in the Colorado mountains, attending annual class reunions, and keeping busy with numerous projects around his home.
Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, and his parents, Carl and Mollie.
He survived by his only son, Steven.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Monday, November 24, 2025, followed by a brief service, at Mark’s Funeral and Cremation, 9293 Eastman Park Drive, Windsor, CO.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family would prefer that you take your family or loved ones for an outing in his memory.
