Vernon Renner

January 26, 1938 — August 21, 2023

Thanks for visiting.   I wanted to share some information for my fathers funeral here for informational purposes.  We hope you can join us in celebrating Vern's life!
We are very saddened by Vern's passing however we are joyful that he is now with Jesus in Heaven.  Dad's last few days were hard and the family was relieved when he decided to go.  As it turns out, he went Home with his wife Carolyn by his side and at a time when a Chaplin came into the room and was singing this hymn (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeZn6v_gA7Y).  During the singing of that hymn, Vern passed away.  More beautiful than we imagined, he went peacefully and was comfortable prior to passing.  We love you Dad!!  We will miss you dearly yet take joy in your incredible journey to Heaven.
He passed away on Monday, August 21st after a battle with congestive heart failure and kidney failure.  He is survived by his favorite person, his wife, Carolyn Renner, his four kids and nine grandchildren.  He was a devout Catholic and attended church weekly right up until the end.
Vern was born in North Dakota.  His father passed away when he was only two years old.  His mother moved the family to Southern California soon thereafter.  His fatherly figures were found in my Uncle Ralph and the Fathers and Priests in the private Catholic school he attended growing up.  He enlisted in the Army soon after high school and eventually was stationed in Germany.  When he returned, he met Carolyn on a Southern California beach and were married.  They had four kids, two daughters and two sons.  He was in the construction industry and was a Commercial Estimator for large projects.  He was involved in some notable buildings such as Space Mountain and The Haunted House at Disneyland, The Green Library at Stanford and other large malls and commercial and government buildings.  Supporting the kids, he was a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts.  We have many memorable trips hiking, camping and earning Merit Badges.  Canoeing down the Colorado River 44 miles from Hoover Dam was a time I remember well in the Scouts.
Vern eventually moved the family to Walnut Creek where Tricia, Doug and Jennifer all attended high school.  He would rent a large house in some new vacation destination every other year for the family to get together.  We stayed in Cayucos, CA, Sunriver, OR, Mammoth Lakes, CA, Livingston Montana, and several more.  Good times were had by all during the Family Vacations.  All four kids went to college.  He was happy about that but could really "care less" in his words wether we went to college or not.  He just wanted to ensure we were all square on our two feet to be good citizens of the world.
Vern taught us well and we are forever grateful!
Amen Brother Ben. Shot a Goose, Killed a Hen...  (Dad's phrase generally said after saying grace).
