It is with extreme sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Steven “Steve” Michael Schmer on May 10th, 2025. Steve was only 56 years old, way too young. Steve was born on March, 26th 1969 in Fort Collins, CO and resided in Windsor, CO for the past 27 years.
Steve is a Rocky Mountain High School graduate and attended Colorado State University – GO RAMS! Steve played many sports in school, loving wrestling, soccer, swimming, diving and golf the most.
Steve married the love of his life Tonya on May, 24th 2003. It was the most beautiful wedding and still spoken about to date. A day so special, they received thank you notes from many for just inviting them to share their day.
Steve was a friend to all he met. He was fiercely honest and loyal, yet humbly quiet and reserved. He was the master of one-liner zingers and had the quickest of wit! Steve was influential, intelligent and always learning. Steve loved his Colorado sports teams, particularly the Avs and Broncos. He was an avid golfer and his short game was better than most. The golf course was his church. Steve was a sweetheart and undeniably handsome. Those eyes, that smile, those teeth! Steve was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion and a true patriot.
Steve is survived by his wife Tonya, his mother Barbara, brother Scott, sister Susan (Jason), nephew Kyle and niece Samantha. Preceded in death by his father Richard and his grandparents.
An informal Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Fri, Jun 13th from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 at The American Legion Forbes-McKay- Post 109, 624 Ash Street Windsor, CO 80550. Please come casual and feel free to wear your favorite golf wear or Colorado home team gear.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent directly to his wife of 22 years to help cover existing and future expenses. A portion of donations will also be given to the American Legion to support the brave men and women serving our country. Donations can be sent via Venmo to @Tonya-Schmer or by the link below
