Steven Joseph Solano

July 18, 1951 — January 14, 2021

Steven Joseph Solano passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021. He was born on July 18, 1951 in Fort Collins, CO to Elvirer “Al” and Mary Solano.

Steve is survived by his wife, Mary “Carol” Solano; Sons: Steven D. Solano, Christopher Solano (Lindsy Martin), and daughter Sarah Solano (Jose Sanchez); Siblings: Delores Kintzley (Mark), Albert Solano (Carla), Laurence Solano (Susie), Viña Solano, and Anna Kintzley (Philip), Eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents Al and Mary Solano, brothers Henry and Tony Solano, and granddaughter Mariah Young-Solano.

Steve attended Holy Family Parochial School, Lincoln Junior High School, and graduated from Poudre High School Class of 1969. Steve was drafted into the United States Army and began his service on June 22, 1971. He was a mechanic with the 2nd Armored Division, “Hell on Wheels” at Fort Hood, Texas. Shortly after his honorable discharge from the Army, he was initiated into Pipefitters Local 208, and was a member for over 47 years. Steve took great pride in being a pipefitter, and used this career to travel the nation, often allowing time to play golf or visit family in other parts of the nation.

As a child Steve loved to bake, even baking birthday cakes for his siblings. His love of baking turned into a love of cooking in general. As a young man, he fell in love with the game of golf. Loving the sport so much that neither multiple knee injuries, multiple bouts of cancer, nor Colorado winters could keep him off of the course. He was involved in many activities over the years coaching youth wrestling, T-ball and baseball teams, and was always ready to assist various causes including the Alonzo Martinez American Legion Post #187, and the Alonzo Golf Tournament.

To his family he will be remembered as the strong man who turned to mush for his grandkids, to his friends as the guy who made himself available to help, and to everyone as the guy who made the food.

Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Windsor, CO on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021.
