Shirley Ann Smith Schmidt born December 31,1934 in Denver CO-passed
away peacefully July 18, 2025 in her home surrounded by family.
Shirley was the daughter of Fern (Bennett) and William (Bill) Smith and grew
up with 2 brothers and 1 sister: William Smith, Robert Smith and Betty Jo
Oliphant.
Shirley and Edward Henry Schmidt were married in 1954,
Shirley was the mother of 4 children: Stephen Edward, Audrey Lynn, Ronald
Fredrick and the late Gregory William Schmidt. Shirley enjoyed 11
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Shirley and Ed spent the early years raising their 4 children in Denver, Ft.
Collins and Greeley CO. They moved the family to Sterling, CO in the 70’s to
start Ed Schmidt Subaru.
They relocated to Ogallala, NE in 1980 to establish Ed Schmidt Motors, where
they remained involved for 40 years.
Shirley and Ed loved Lake McConaughy and enjoyed boating their entire lives.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church where she participated in
many activities. She later enjoyed learning and playing bridge in several clubs.
Shirley enjoyed working in her yard, golfing and spending time with her family,
be it at the lake or family gatherings. Her grandchildren have fond memories
of spending time with her on their boat, playing cards (Kings on the Corner)
and battleship. Also feeding Carp day old bread from the boat dock at the
Lake. She was often a pen pal to them during school projects.
She is survived by Stephen Schmidt (Sherri) of Windsor CO, Audrey Will (Ed) of
Castle Rock, CO and Ron Schmidt (Kim)of Ogallala, Daughter-in-Law Laura
Schmidt of Lake Havasu City, Az and 11 grandchildren: Ricci Barton of
Bentonville AR, Meghann Lauts of Ogallala, Cassidee Schmidt (Sam Cannon)
of Ft. Collins, CO, Luke Schmidt (Tara) of Ogallala. Ali Fisher (Austin) of
Denver CO, Sami Will of Chicago, Il, Max Will (Clara) of Denver, CO, Eric
Schmidt of Boulder CO, Austin Schmidt of Pasadena CA, Shaun Schmidt of
Big Sky Montana, Kevin Larson of Westminster, CO and her brother-in-law
Lenard Schmidt (Betty) of Sioux City IA. Shirley was preceded in death by her
