Samantha Jean Meis-Colohan

May 25, 1974 — November 20, 2023

Samantha, 49, passed away on November 20th, 2023 at Pelican Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in Windsor, Colorado.

Samantha (known as Sami to her family) was born May 25th, 1974 in Tucson, Arizona.  She grew up in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1992.  Sami had a quick wit, and sarcastic humor, and loved to joke and laugh with her family.  She was afraid of heights but because of her small size ended up being the top of the pyramid in high school cheerleading – something her family found very amusing.  Sami married David Colohan in 1996.

She was most proud of her children; Bowe, Jaeda, and Gage.  She was the type of mother who would spend hours with her children building LEGOS, crafting, and playing outside.  She also loved to watch cooking shows and true crime documentaries and was an expert at cooking teriyaki salmon.  Sami always had a small garden to grow her peppers and tomatoes, and loved having strange animals like a rat and even a ferret.  She was a die-hard Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan and was always watching Sunday football.  Sami’s smile took over her whole face.

Samantha is survived by her parents; Rick & Brenda Meis, children; Bowe, Jaeda, and Gage; brothers Edmund (LeAnne) Muchowski and Kyle Meis, and sisters Nancy (Ken) Fogerty, and Kacy (Kyle) Mitchell along with numerous nieces and nephews.

As a teenager Samantha began to struggle with her mental health and had issues with substance abuse.  Her family constantly held out hope she would be able to overcome them, even getting help through Mountain Crest when she was a teen.  Samantha had years of sobriety when her children were young but without accepting offered help those issues re-emerged in her 30’s.  Alcoholism ultimately separated her from her children and eventually took her life.  Her children are adamant that sharing her addiction could possibly help someone else who is struggling.  They want everyone reading to know that there is help available and you are worth it – it is never too late to ask for help.  Local resources include Mountain Crest and North Range Behavioral Health.  Samantha’s own brother is getting ready to celebrate 10 years of sobriety from the help of Stout Street Foundation.

A memorial service will be held on December 7th, 2023 at 10am at Marks Funeral Home in Windsor, Colorado.  In lieu of flowers the family would love memorial contributions to go to Stout Street Foundation.  Those donations can be made at www.stoutstreet.org/donate/
