Obituary
Ruth Branscum died after a brief illness on Wednesday, October 26th. She was born May 6th, 1931, in
Mayetta, KS. She attended high school in Holdrege, NE. When she was 18 years old her mother fell
gravely ill, and Ruth nursed her back to health. This inspired her to become a nurse. After her high
school graduation, she visited Estes Park, CO with a friend. She fell in love with the area and decided to
attend the Bethel School of Nursing in Colorado Springs. Her career took her to Chicago, IL, Los Angeles,
CA, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Denver, and Greeley CO. She obtained her BSN from the University of
Northern Colorado in 1991 and graduated at the top of her class. Her career spanned 69 years including
various positions in hospitals, private practice, hospice, behavioral health, and administration and
training. She was bright, perceptive, highly skilled, and experienced in all areas of nursing. She received
many awards for her contributions and service. She retired from her nursing career at the age of 89.
Ruth and Gene also owned and operated Dale’s Carpet One in Greeley, CO for several years.
Ruth was often referred to as an angel, she lit up every room she walked into. She genuinely touched
others with her graceful demeanor and presence. She was an amazing mentor and role model,
understanding people and helping them through the most difficult times while lifting their spirits.
She is survived by her husband Gene Branscum, her children Cynthia Walliser (Blake), Jamie Cassell
(Joel) and David Burns (Jolene) and her stepsons Brian Branscum (Candace), Blain Branscum (Erica), and
Blake Branscum (Stephanie), fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
