Robert Ray Utley, 86, passed away May 31 st, 2024, in Collinsville, Oklahoma.
Robert led a rich and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy marked by his dedication to service
and his passion for the outdoors. Born on April 24th, 1938, in Bartlett, Kansas, to Leo Utley and
Roberta (Allen) Utley, he spent his formative years in Parsons, Kansas. After graduating from
Parsons High School in 1956, he embarked on a journey that would take him across the country.
His career with Pacific Bell Telephone Company led him to California, where he met and
married his first wife, Judith Jark, in Beatrice, Nebraska, on May 20th, 1961. Together, they
shared many years until her passing on January 24th, 1989. Robert's commitment to service
extended beyond his professional life; he served in the Navy aboard the Bon Homme Richard
aircraft carrier for five years, proudly contributing to his country's defense.
Upon completing his military service, Robert returned to civilian life and continued his career
with Pacific Bell. He transferred to Colorado within the Bell system, where he eventually retired
in 1990. His retirement didn't mark the end of his active involvement in his community; instead,
it opened doors for him to pursue his passions and engage in meaningful volunteer work. He
married Karen Robison on June 23 rd 1990.
Robert immersed himself in various organizations, including the Briggsdale School Board,
Arvada and Briggsdale Lions Clubs, and the Briggsdale Historical Society. He also dedicated his
time to teaching Hunter Education for the Colorado Division of Wildlife for an impressive 11
years, leaving a lasting impact on over 300 students.
Throughout his life, Robert cherished the outdoors, finding solace and joy in activities like
hunting, camping, and photography. These pursuits allowed him to connect with nature and
create lasting memories with his loved ones. His devotion to his family was evident in every
moment spent together, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his wife Karen, of Collinsville, brother Allen Utley, of Checotah, Oklahoma, sister-in-law
