Randall Gene Schwalm, 70, passed away at his home on April 5, 2026. Randy was bom in Johnstown, Colorado, to Lloyd and Shirley Schwalm. In 1962, the family moved to a farm south of Windsor. He received his State Farmer Degree in 1972, graduated from Windsor High School in 1973, and then began faming 320 acres with his father. In 1981, he formed a padnership with his parents, farming 450 acres. After marrying Beth in 1996, she joined the partnership. In 1996, they bought his parent's share of the operation, eventually farming 960 acres of sugar beets, pinto beans, corn, and wheat He retired from farming in the fall of 2024.
Randy was a tireless advocate for agriculture through his involvement with FFA, Young Farmers and many other organizations. He did not just join organizations; he was deeply involved in their purpose and in leadership roles. Randy was a charter member of Thompson Valley Young Farmers and served as their president. At the state level, he held many offices, eventually serving as state president, and then served on the National Board of Directors, where he was instrumental in writing the national constitution and bylaws. He later served as the Thompson Valley chapter advisor for 32 years. In 2003, he chaired the committee to restart Ag Education and FFA at Windsor High School. Randy then served as chair of the Windsor FFA Advisory Committee from 2005 until 2018. He provided oversight as farm manager of the Windsor FFA Land Lab and the Thompson Valley Young Farmer's Educator Farm. His contributions did not go unnoticed, as he received local, state, and national service recognition from both FFA and Young Farmers. Randy loved to mentor young people and educators. As part of the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture, he and Beth enjoyed hosting teachers for summer in-service sessions with lunch for all on Tuesdays and individual teachers working on the farm on Thursdays. FFA students were often hired as summer help on Schwalm Farms. For many years, he and Beth hosted farm field trips for school groups, giving children an opportunity to learn about the importance of agriculture in their communities.
Randy was a big man with a big heart, a generous spirit, and an infectious laugh. He had many friends and lived his life with a purpose beyond himself.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Schwalm, and great nephew Kody Schmidt
He is survived by his loving wife, Beth Schwalm of Windsor; mother, Shirley Schwalm of Johnstown, CO; sisters, Bonnie Tiffany (Dave) of Omaha, NE, and Sherri Schwalmy of Denver CO; niece, Brooke Schmidt (Tyler) of Vale, SD; nephew, Ben Tiffany (Kerry) of Omaha, NE; uncle, Ken Schwalm of Windsor CO, aunt, Lois Bauer of Denver; and 4 great nieces and nephew.
