In Loving Memory of Mona Valdez

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mona Valdez, who peacefully passed away on Oct. 9 th, 2026, at the age of 76.

Born on Oct. 4 th, 1950, in Greeley, CO to Marcos and Edna Contreraz, Mona lived a life defined by faith, love, kindness, generosity, humor and strength. She had a special gift for making people feel welcome, cared for, and valued. She went on to biblical school and teaching religious education.

To her family, she was much more than a mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, or friend. She was a steady source of comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love. Whether through a warm meal, a listening ear, words of encouragement, or simply her presence, she touched countless lives in ways both big and small.

Mona found joy in her faith, family and friends. She loved family gatherings, traveling, cooking, teaching religious education to children and created memories that her loved ones will cherish forever. Those who knew her will remember her for loyalty, compassion, devotion to family, resilience, and kindness.

Among her greatest blessings were her family and friends. She was deeply proud of those she loved and celebrated their accomplishments as if they were her own.

She is lovingly survived by her husband Daniel Valdez. Her children Chris Valdez, Theresa Valdez, Mike Valdez. Her grandchildren Tanisha & Zach Ohmie, Donte Valdez, Skyler Brown, Aden Valdez, Daijin Grogan, Annalise Valdez, Danica Grogan, and Georgie. Her siblings, Charlene (Tinky) and Carlos Ortiz, Roy Contreraz, Tammy Contreraz, Mike and Helen Contreraz, Dutch and Dave Wilhite. And many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Marcos and Edna Contreraz, her brother Frank Contreraz and her sister Maxine Clark.

While our hearts grieve her loss, we are grateful for the gift of having known and loved her. The lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the love she shared will remain with us always.

Though she is no longer with us, her love continues to guide us, and her memory will forever live in our hearts.

Mom taught us how to love fiercely, laugh often, and face life's challenges with grace. We will miss her every day, but we take comfort in knowing that the love she gave us will remain a part of who we are forever.
