When Ron was drafted, she followed him to Missouri for basic training and she was allowed to go with him to Japan for his deployment. She was hired as a civilian administrative assistant to the Air Force which got her teased by Ron’s Army buddies for working for the Air Force. During their time in Japan, their first child, Ricky was born in 1963. The new family returned to the states in 1964 for Ron’s discharge from the Army.
