Norbert Joseph Kalmar Jr.

Norbert Joseph Kalmar Jr., known to many as Skip, was born in South Bend, Indiana on January 17th, 1964 and passed while surrounded by family at age 62 in Loveland, Colorado on June 11th, 2026.

Skip graduated from Washington High School in Indiana in 1982 and studied Microbiology at Purdue University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Fish & Wildlife Biology in 1986. He met his wife, Cindy, during their freshman year of college and they were married in Indiana in 1986. Shortly after, Skip and Cindy moved to Windsor, Colorado, joining their lifelong best friends John and Liz Clark.

Skip spent his career as a microbiologist in wildlife and agricultural research, and later as a quality assurance technician in food sciences.

He was known best by his loved ones as an avid outdoorsman who cherished the wonder and solitude of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Skip was a calm and quiet man to most however those that knew him best share memories of laughter, curiosity, and storytelling at his favorite place on Earth, the Poudre Canyon, where he spent countless days fishing, camping, and hiking. Skip was a Notre Dame fan, a sharp card player, a witty jokester, a horror and thriller movie buff, and a grounding voice of comfort and wisdom to his loved ones.

The most important thing to Skip was taking care of and providing unwavering support for his family. He never missed a dance performance; a 4-H club meeting; a marching band competition; school events like Dads and Doughnuts, fundraisers, Honor Society inductions, and graduations; or a dinner at his favorite Mexican restaurant with his family. He loved his son-in-law, Wesley, and danced to his favorite song, Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”, at Kaitlyn and Wesley’s wedding with both of them and Kyle. He enjoyed long phone calls with his mom, dad, and sister Lynn as well as many adventures with his wife, children, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. He loved his dogs and came to love two cats in his lifetime. Skip is remembered as a selfless husband, father, son, and brother who deeply loved his entire family.

Skip was preceded in death by his father Norbert Kalmar Sr.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Cindy Kalmar (Mayer); daughter Kaitlyn (Wesley) Kalmar-Cogburn; son Kyle Kalmar; mother MaryAnn Kalmar (Kosik) of South Bend, Indiana; sister Lynn (Ed) Haney of White Pigeon, Michigan; sister Pam Griffin of South Bend, Indiana; brother, Michael (Melanie) Kalmar of Charles Town, West Virginia, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Skip’s life will be privately celebrated by his family at a later date.
