Nancy Kathryn Hermes

September 15, 1954 – June 4, 2026

Nancy Kathryn Hermes passed away on June 4, 2026 in Loveland, Colorado, after a short, but very brave battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.

Nancy was born on September 15, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Harold Hardy Hermes and Lila (Hampton) Hermes.

Nancy's mother's family had roots in rural Texas, where her grandfather worked as a cotton sharecropper before eventually owning a crossroads general store. On her father's side, Nancy's grandmother, Kathryn (Leech) Hermes, raised two children as a single mom through difficult circumstances during the Depression years. Nancy's father, Harold Hermes, grew up in Enid, Oklahoma, left university to serve during World War II, trained with helicopter pioneer Igor Sikorsky in the early days of helicopter flight, and went on to a distinguished career in helicopter testing and engineering.

Nancy spent her early childhood in Kansas City before moving with her family to Oklahoma City in 1963. In Oklahoma City, Nancy joined the Kerr McGee Swim Club and formed friendships that lasted throughout her life.

Friends remember Nancy's quick smile, easy laugh, and ability to make newcomers feel at home. One former swim teammate still laughs about a prank in which Nancy loaned him a girl's swimsuit so he could secretly swim on a girls relay team. The team was eventually disqualified, but teammates still laugh about the memory decades later.

As a young woman, Nancy chose her own path. While her parents expected her to attend college, Nancy had other ideas. Nancy worked after high school classes, saved diligently, bought her own car, and moved to Colorado.

From an entry-level position at a mortgage company, Nancy became known for solving challenging collection cases. Eventually, she was entrusted with large, multi-state portfolios and later became a lead manager responsible for opening new offices in additional cities and states.

While living in Colorado Springs, Nancy met the ‘love of her life,’ (as she often called him) John Ormanoski, Sr. She retired early from the mortgage business and moved to Eastern Colorado to enjoy the country life with John and their chocolate labrador, Duke. Nancy learned to garden, ride four-wheelers, take care of the land and property, and relax outdoors fishing and camping. She prided herself in being the best “Dog Mom” to Duke, as well as cared for other family dogs with love and compassion.

However, Nancy and John’s true passion was travelling and especially cruising! Together they enjoyed over 60 cruises to many beautiful and exotic locations. Some of their favorites were the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, South and Central America, Alaska, and even the Panama Canal. Nancy and John would often join music cruises where they mingled with the band members, donned signed concert shirts and danced the night away. On a special “oldies music cruise” they were even crowned Prom King and Queen for their amazing dancing skills!

Friends, family members, coworkers, and teammates remember Nancy as kind, approachable, generous, caring, and fun to be around.

Before her passing, thoughtful as always, Nancy prepared five years of birthday cards for her nieces and nephews, each containing a personal note written in her own hand. This is just one example of how we will always remember Nancy’s kindness and love.

Nancy is survived by her loving partner of 44 years, John J. Ormanoski Sr of Hale, Colorado, her sister, Diana Lila Kirsch of Granger, Texas and nephews Charlie, Jeff and Matt and her brother, Richard H. Hermes, and nephew Nick and wife Kate, great-niece Evie, and great-nephew Callum, all of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

No service is planned at this time.
