Melvin (known as Mel by family and friends) Unrein, age 74, of Windsor, Colorado, passed away on December 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on July 6, 1951, in Hayes, Kansas, to Cyril and Mary (Kuhn) Unrein. The family moved to Colorado when he was 1. He was one of 15 children: 8 boys and 7 girls. He was happily married to his wife, Cathy (Lockwood) Unrein, for 42 years until her passing in 2012. He had 2 daughters: Sharon (Leloup) and Beth (Pfeffer).
Mel worked for Kodak for over 40 years. He enjoyed camping with his young family, continuing until this last summer with his brothers and sisters. He loved working with his hands, building many things, and fixing many more. After retirement, he found new hobbies, including bowling and pickleball.
He is survived by his daughter Sharon (Shawn) Leloup; his grandchildren Hannah Leloup, Hunter Leloup, and Abigail Leloup; his sisters Arlene Bohall, Mary Unrein, and Carolyn (Vince) Cummins; and his brothers Cy (Linda) Unrein and Dave (Yvonne) Unrein.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy (Lockwood) Unrein, his daughter, Beth Pfeffer, 5 brothers (Ernie, Denis, Ralph, Darrell, and Tom), and 4 sisters (Jeannie, Joyce, Phyllis, and Joy).
Services will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1200 Cornerstone Drive, Windsor, Colorado, at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 9.
