Melecio Casals Labalan Jr.

Melecio (Sonny) C. Labalan Jr., age 65, passed away June 8, 2026 at UCHealth Medical Center

of the Rockies, located in Loveland, Colorado. He passed away just ten days before his 66th

birthday.

He was born June 18, 1960, in Magallanes, Sorsogon, Philippines, the first son of Melecio

Labalan Sr. and Isabel Casals Labalan.

Sonny proudly served in the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Following his time as a military

officer, Sonny completed his higher education and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from

the Philippine Military Academy (Class of 1983). He subsequently pursued a Master of Public

Administration. (less thesis)

He also served as a police officer in the Philippine National Police who faithfully protected the

Filipino people. He retired from the service in March 1999 with the rank of Police Lieutenant

Colonel. While he was a man of great duty and discipline in his service to the country, Sonny

was even more defined by his role as the pillar of his family, a devoted husband and a father

who led his children with quiet strength and love.

He went on to build a successful career with China Banking Corporation & Chinabank Savings

Inc. in Makati, Philippines where he worked for 21 years.

As a U.S. immigrant, He held various security and production roles in Florida, Wisconsin, and

Colorado until he settled as a Litz Wire Machine Operator in Rubadue Wire in Loveland,

Colorado. The higher-ups at Rubadue Wire described Sonny as a hardworking and exceptional

worker who showed initiative, was reliable, and always delivered high-quality output. Every job

he took on in the United States was fueled by his desire to provide a better life for his family. He

was a man who believed in the power of hard work, and he took immense pride in seeing his

children succeed.

Sonny was preceded in death by his mother, Isabel Casals Labalan.

Sonny will be remembered as a humorous man who cherished his role as a grandfather and a

friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Nelda Baldago Labalan; four sons, Jose Carlo Luis

Labalan, Miko Labalan, Kim Justin Labalan, and Melecio (Thirdy) Labalan III; his father Melecio

Labalan Sr.; four sisters, Lilibeth Lao, Isabel (Mabel) Hernandez, Estherina (Manens) Foronda,

Marimel (Mamel) Enderes; one brother, Vincent (Ticong) Labalan; and two grandchildren, Khloe

Mikheila Labalan and Arianna Ezmey Labalan, along with many other family and friends who

will sadly miss him.

Following services at Mark's Funeral in Windsor, Colorado, Sonny's cremains will be kept by his

family until he is taken to his final resting place in the Philippines.
