Mason Mages

July 11, 2006 — May 7, 2020

Mason Michael Mages, age 13, was born on July 11, 2006 in Overland Park, KS and passed to be with His Savior on May 7, 2020 in a neighborhood lake in Windsor, CO.
Mason had taken his little brother across the lake in their canoe while the waters were still calm. The brothers were called back across the lake as the winds suddenly picked up. As the winds continued to increase, the canoe capsized. Even though Mason knew how to swim well he was fully clothed, including irrigation boots, and was not wearing a life vest. He was treading water for a time, but the high winds and cold waves were overbearing. We were assured Mason did not suffer. His younger brother, who was wearing a lifejacket, was rescued by a neighborhood resident. Divers and rescue workers searched tirelessly in the difficult conditions. Mason, a lover of his own dog, Ash, was ultimately located by a Colorado Task Force 1 rescue dog.
Mason loved and had a personal relationship with Jesus. Mason is not only in a better place but is in the BEST place. Mason is survived by his Mom and Dad, and 3 younger siblings, Macallen, Miles, and Madison. He is also survived by many other family members and friends, spread out all over the world, who love him dearly.
Mason’s favorite things were the great outdoors and could always turn a stick or any other object into a weapon using his pocketknife he kept on him. He has worn jeans and boots with pliers in a holster since he was three years old and thought shorts were unacceptable. He loved Stars Wars and was always willing to demonstrate his Jedi skills. Green was his favorite color, and he loved milkshakes, superhero movies, Legos, Kansas, John Deere, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s music, KJIL (Kansas Christian radio station), Bluegrass Gospel, swords, Nerf guns, summer, AWANA. Mason loved his siblings like none other and prayed for a sister until he got one!
Mason struggled with the recent move from Kansas where he loved the previous wide-open spaces but had started this fall in a Colorado Youth Outdoors program with his father that he was thoroughly enjoying.

He enjoyed being home schooled, except for math, and participated in Classical Conversations, having just completed Challenge A. Through his studies he had started to develop a strong sense of logic and reasoning. This encouraged him to think critically and challenge other’s thoughts and beliefs.
