James Edward Rae, 67, of Windsor, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Hospital on September 9, 1958 in Denver, Colorado. Jimmy worked hard from very early on, from the days of raising sheep and pigs on his dad’s ranch to his 40 years in accounting and government auditing. He graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1976 and met his future wife, Susan, the following year before earning his accounting degree at the University of Northern Colorado. He also studied in a graduate program at Colorado State University. As a certified public accountant for over 40 years, his clients always spoke highly of his caring and hard work. In the latter years of his career, Jimmy owned his own business and, in that time, was recognized for turning around a government entity’s finances. He served on the State Board of Accountancy to which he was appointed by Governor Polis to help establish rules and procedures for accountancy in the State of Colorado. Jimmy was an avid reader of mysteries and lover of sunshine and humor. He enjoyed reading in the sunshine with Daisy, his basset hound by his side. He loved baseball and collected baseball cards since he was a kid. However, his greatest role was being a loving father and husband. He often laughed at stories, jokes, and funny movies with his family and enjoyed traveling to the ocean whenever he could. He teased those closest to him lovingly. He was also the kind of dad who taught his children how to make straight lines in the grass with the lawnmower, while talking deeply about every aspect of life, religion, politics, and society with them. He did it with a smile, a good-humored joke, and a lot of love. His heart and intelligence were his greatest strengths. He is survived by a family who loved him deeply: his beloved wife, Susan; his loving children Jessie and husband Brad, Luke and wife Jenn, Zach and fiancé Dan, Adam and girlfriend Savanah; and his adoring grandchildren: Aidan, Annie, Iain, Cole, Shamus, and William. He is also survived by his sister, Bev and husband Mike, his brother John and wife Elizabeth, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Viola Rae, his brothers Bob and Bill, his sisters-in-law Pam and Leanne, and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins. He loved his family greatly. Jimmy's memorial service will be held June 27th, 2pm, at St Alban’s Episcopal Church in Windsor, Colorado. Donations can be made to Saint Alban's Community Pantry.
