Irvin Reinhold Nelson

Irvin Reinhold Nelson, age 91, passed away on July 27, 2026.

Born in Denver on July 10, 1935, Irvin moved to Pierce, Colorado, as an infant and was raised on the family farm.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Irvin served from June 4, 1955, to June 24, 1957, including duty in Korea and serving in The Old Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Throughout his civilian life, he was defined by his strong work ethic—working as a farmer, diesel mechanic, real estate agent, and owner of Highland Hay Grinding. Known for his practical skill, Irvin was the kind of person who could fix almost anything. He was also deeply active in his community, serving as a member of the Lions Club and as a board member for the Ault Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Louise Nelson, whom he married in 1959; his children, Irvin Scott Nelson, Robin Dawn Soto (husband Ron), and Brian Lee Nelson; his grandchildren, Danielle Bruce, Shelbey Nelson, Abby Anderson (husband Zach), and Liza Nelson; his great-grandchildren, Harrison Bruce and Archer Bruce; his sister, Helen Isaacson (husband Ellis); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhold and Inez Nelson; his brothers, Herb Nelson, Russell Nelson, Leroy Nelson, and Earl Nelson; and his sister, Judy Rau.

A celebration of life will be held on September 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Ault, Colorado, with a reception to follow at the VFW.
