Douglas Smets

December 13, 1972 — May 6, 2024

Doug Smets, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away suddenly on May 6th, 2024, due to an unexpected heart aneurysm. He was 51 years young.

Born on December 13th, 1972, Doug brought warmth, joy, and a contagious sense of fun to every gathering. His unwavering faith in God was a cornerstone of his character, guiding him through every triumph and challenge with a smile on his face.

Doug was the cherished son of Jean Cyza and Richard Smets and loving brother to Danny (his partner Jayne), sister Kristy and his nieces and nephews. His family was the heartbeat of his life, and he found immense joy in the bonds they shared. Doug's devotion to his family was evident in every interaction and he served as a foundation of strength and support.

In his youth, Doug met his high school sweetheart, Tracy Sabala and their love blossomed into a beautiful marriage. Tracy Sabala Smets, was born July 21st, 1974 to Betsy Sator and Jerry Sabala. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. Tracy was not only his wife, but his partner and best friend in every sense of the word. Their union was blessed with three children: Elise, James, and Kylie. Doug was the epitome of a doting father finding immense pride and joy in watching his three children grow and flourish.

As a man of God, Doug's faith was the guiding light that illuminated his path. His commitment to serving others and living a life of integrity and purpose was a testament to his deep-rooted beliefs. Doug's faith was not just a part of his life but the foundation upon which he built his relationships and his legacy. His love, faith, compassion, and joy will serve as a source of comfort and inspiration for generations to come. May his soul rest in eternal peace with our heavenly father, knowing that he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Doug is survived by his beloved wife, three children, his parents, his brother, sister, nieces and nephews.

A service will be held June 22, 2024 at 10am at Timberline Church, Ft. Collins CO.
