Dorothy Mae Greene, born July 13, 1930, grew up on the eastern Colorado plains. She married Dennie Greene, raising five children: Patsy, Danny, Virginia, Ricky, and Michael. In her early years, she and Dennie hosted barn dances and ran a diner. Following Dennie's construction work, they moved between Denver, Utah, and other areas before returning to Colorado, where they built a life rooted in hard work and family.
Dorothy helped create a lively homestead, raising horses, livestock, and chickens, and providing for her family through a hands-on, self-sufficient way of life. She worked for over 30 years at a nursing home in Yuma, where she earned her CNA certification. Dorothy devoted herself to caring for others, both professionally and at home.
She spent years caring for her husband, Dennie, during his illness until his passing in 1991. Shortly after, she faced breast cancer with strength and resilience, ultimately beating it and returning to work before retiring.
Dorothy also played a significant role in helping raise her granddaughter and was known for always putting others before herself. She was a hard worker, deeply devoted to her family, and a strong, resilient woman whose life served as an inspiration to those around her. She loved her flower gardens, animals, quilting, sewing, crocheting, and was known as a wonderful cook.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two greatgreat-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennie Greene; her son, Michael Greene; her granddaughter, Buffy; her parents; and her siblings.
Her legacy of strength, selflessness, and love will live on in all who knew her.
Celebration of life will be held June 5, 11-2 in Windsor.
