Donald Gene Tolbert

Donald “Don” Gene Tolbert was born on June 22, 1947 in Winters, TX to mother Martha Geneva O’Kelly Tolbert and J.R. Tolbert.

Don passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by his family at the Pathways of Northern Colorado Hospice Inpatient Center on December 8, 2022. Don is survived by his wife of 51 years Robin Bickford Tolbert, his eldest son Joseph “Joe” Tolbert and his wife Crystalyn, his daughter Tabitha Vela and her husband Sean, and his youngest daughter Sabrina Farmer and her husband Brando; and 4 grandchildren, Keona Vela, Katelyn Vela, Savannah Tolbert, and Jude Farmer.

He is also survived by his sister Charlotte Aldred and her husband Ronnie, his sister Pam O’Brian and her husband Dave, his sister Diane Webb and her husband Gary, his sister Kathy Stapp and her husband Phillip, his brother Tim Hammond, and his sister Connie Hammond, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his Mother Martha Geneva Hammond and her husband Pete, his father J.R. Tolbert and his wife Judy, and his brother Bobby Tolbert.

Don grew up in the greater Houston, TX area. Don was a Navy veteran who served offshore on an aircraft carrier during the Vietnam War and met his wife Robin in Vidor, TX after completing his service. He and Robin raised their 3 children in Texas and retired to Loveland, CO in 2008.  Don was a man of God who was a member of Faith Church in Fort Collins, CO and enjoyed participating in church choirs, Stephen Ministry, small groups, and Sunday school. He was also an active church member in Texas before moving to Colorado. Don enjoyed learning to dance in the 1990’s and continued to dance up to his last few days with Robin and his care givers. He loved being outdoors, skiing, hiking, fishing, bird watching and taking adventures with his with children, grandchildren, and extended family when they came to visit.

Our family wishes to extend the sincerest gratitude and thanks to the VA Administration, Dementia Together, Alzheimer’s Organization of Northern Colorado, and Pathways Hospice for the loving support, training, final care, and respects given to Don and our family during this journey through dementia.
