Winsor
Donald Lee, 84, was born March 25, 1940, in Gnadenhutten, Ohio to Joseph Arthur and Helen Frances (Millhorn) Hooker. He died peacefully on May 11, 2024, in Fort Collins, CO. By his side was his wife of nearly 58 years, Marilyn (Marshall). Don was the oldest of 4 children raised in Uhrichsville, OH. He graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1958. He enlisted in the US Army in 1962 where he worked primarily with electronic communication equipment and was on the drill team and color guard. He was stationed in Turkey, Ethiopia, and Fort Monmouth, NJ until his honorable discharge in 1965.
After his discharge, he went on a cross-country trip to see the national parks before he planned to return home. While in Yellowstone National Park, he met Marilyn who was on vacation with her family. The sparks quickly flew and soon Don was traveling with Marilyn’s family. When Marilyn’s family was in a deadly car accident (they all survived), he showed them the kind dependable man he was and helped them during that horrible time.
Don settled with Marilyn in Bloomington, MN. He graduated from the University of MN with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Secondary Education. He worked as an industrial painter for Metro Machines for 25 years and retired in 2005. Don was a loving and supportive husband and father to their 3 children, Allison, Christina and Benjamin. They were long time members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington. After 43 years in MN, Don and Marilyn took on a new adventure and moved to Little Rock, AR to be close to their daughter Christina and her family. They followed her again to Rogers, AR and finally to Windsor, CO.
Since his early years, Don made it his lifelong goal to learn or experience one new thing a day. He was happiest at home with family. He loved nature, space, technology, card playing and was an avid reader. He taught his children and grandchildren to appreciate these things as well. He was patient, understanding, and able to look at all sides of situations. Don’s belief in our eternal Father, Son and Holy Spirit gave him and his family the comfort and peace needed to face his death.
Don is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Francis, his brother David Hooker and his grandson Charles Scheurer.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Allison Clark (David); daughter Christina Scheurer (Kristopher), grandchildren Cora, Luke, Scarlett; son Benjamin Lee (Lauren), grandchildren Ian, Caden, Beckett, Easton; sisters Carol Alsept (Dennis) and Nancy McPeek (George); nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
