Daniel James Endres of Longmont (formerly of Greeley) passed away on March 4, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, CO. Dan was born in McCook, NE, the third of ten children to Robert and Mary Louise Endres. Dan was a graduate of University High School, and the University of Northern Colorado, wih a degree in Physics.
Dan had a long and distinguished career with the National Oceanic and Amospheric Administration. He spent 22 years as station chief at the NOAA Atmospheric Baseline Observatory in Utqiagvik (Barrow), AK. While there, Dan embraced the art, culture and lifestyle of all things Alaskan and made many lifelong friends. The remainder of his career was at the NOAA Climate Monitoring and Diagnostic Laboratory in Boulder. One career highlight was travelling to and overseeing a research project at NOAA’s South Pole Atmospheric Research Observatory.
Dan’s hobbies included cooking, hunting, fishing and he was a lifelong world learner with many interests and experiences. His outgoing personalty and adventures captivated his audiences with great storytelling.
Survivors include mother, Mary Lou Endres, siblings Ed Endres (Patty), John Endres (Mary), Mary Elizabeth Endres, Patricia Otto and Patrick Endres (Heather), all of Greeley, and Margaret Endres-Clark (Cheyenne), Thomas (Shelly) of Windsor, and Anne Marie Sipes (Dave) of Las Vegas, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Robert Endres, brother, William Endres, and brother-in-law, Jeff Clark.
Funeral service and interment at Linn Grove Cemetary in Greeley dates and details are pending.
