Cindy Sue (Roukema) Swank, 71, of Windsor, Colorado, passed away in the early hours of Sunday May 31, 2026 after a battle with cancer.
Born in Greeley, Colorado on June 22, 1954 to Dr. Fred Roukema and Avis (Walker) Roukema, she spent most of her life in Greeley. She was a graduate of University High School and University of Northern Colorado.
Cindy was dearly loved by those who were close to her. She was a sweet and caring wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She and her husband Jed shared over 30 years together, traveling, volunteering, and experiencing abundant life. He was the love of her life, and her devoted caregiver in the end. Cindy spent much of her time in retirement with her sister Nancy. She also spent every moment she could with her kids and grandkids; she was a constant source of support and encouragement.
Cindy was a cherished friend to many; keeping in close contact with many of her childhood and high school friends. She and her group of girls never allowed life to get in the way of a get-together or a girls trip.
She loved her career as a medical technologist, and was well respected and loved by her coworkers in every lab she worked in. She retired (twice), and then promptly began a vibrant volunteer life. She drove for 60+ ride, helped Nancy at the Weld County Food Bank and the Exchange Club, and spent many years with Jed volunteering with Honor Flight of Northern Colorado. She was active in Jazzercise, walked around Windsor Lake almost every day, golfed whenever she could, read voraciously, and loved to dominate her kids in a game of Scrabble. (Though Calvin takes exception to this statement!) She also learned to create; from watercolor paintings to crocheted treasures to dyed wooden flowers, to helping Jed with fused glass. She never slowed down and never took life for granted.
In all of her endeavors, her favorite thing to do was anything involving her family, especially her grandkids. Christmas cookie decorating, attending sporting events, flying across the country to be with her grandkids for every life event, and being present and engaged in everything they were passionate about. She never missed out on the important things, and her grandkids will remember her dedication forever.
Preceded in death by her mother Avis Roukema, and father Dr. Fred Roukema. Survived by her loving husband Jed Swank, her children, Amber (Finken) Johnson (husband Darrin), Calvin Sellens (Wife Megan), Aubrey (Sellens) Augenstein, and Bryson Swank (Wife Lauryn), her grandchildren Caden, Eslie, Bridger, Liam, Cooper, Archer, Steele, Jaxon, Colton, Oliver, Ryder, Bella and Tristen, her siblings Nancy Critchfield (Gene), Jim Roukema (Deb), and Bob Roukema (Michelle), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is planned for June 30th, 2026 from 2pm to 4pm at Zoe’s Cafe In Greeley.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Cindy's name to the American Cancer Society or the Weld County Food Bank.
