Charles S Schmidt Sr November 12, 1948 – January 26, 2026
Charles S Schmidt Sr “Charlie” age 77, passed away at home surrounded by his family in Windsor, Colorado.
He was born November 12, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Opal (Robinson) Schmidt.
Moving to Lakemoor/ Lilymoor area as a child, he attended McHenry schools.
Charles married Susan (Johnson) in 1972 and spent 53 wonderful years raising their family.
He was a proud and loving father to his sons Charles Schmidt Jr, Jason Schmidt, and a cherished father-in-law to Kristin Schmidt. He loved being Papa (Buster) to his five grandchildren, Olivia, Judah, Samira, Keilana, and Zekiah.
Charles was a decorated veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division from 1969 to 1971. He was in combat duty in Vietnam where he earned three Bronze Medals as well as the Army Commendation Medal. He served his country honorably and carried that sense of duty throughout his life.
Charlie worked for Local Roofing until he went to work for The Village of Lakemoor (Illinois) as the Director of Public Works Department. Serving the public for nearly 35 years, until his retirement in 2014. He loved his job and the people of the community. He served under eight administrations and was on several boards. Through the years he cherished his continued friendships with the administrators, co-workers, and the community.
His love always extended to all his family: mother-in-law Andrea Johnson (James), Brother-in-law James Johnson Jr (Ann), Sistersin-law, Laurie Bransky, Renee Maxson (Kevin), Sue Schmidt (Frank), and Connie Schmidt (Fred), countless nieces, nephews and cousins who were so very fond of him!
Charlie was the last of the Schmidt brothers. They, along with three sisters-in-law, are now together. Frank Schmidt, Phil and Barb Schmidt, Fred Schmidt, Tom and Carol Schmidt, and Mike and Jackie Schmidt.
Charlies' favorite pastime was watching his grandkids play hockey. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and going to the shooting range. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a true family man whose generosity knew no limits. He spent a lifetime giving to others. Because of Jesus Christ, we will see you again in Heaven!
Charles will be laid to rest March 9th, 2026, with a military burial at the National Cemetery in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
