Billy Duane Slack

November 12, 1934 — March 18, 2023

Bill Duane Slack went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 18, 2023. Bill was born on November 12, 1934 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Kenneth and Eva Slack.

Bill attended the University of Nebraska for one year in 1954 before joining the Army in 1955. Bill was in the 370th Airborne Division, stationed in Munich, Germany.  Bill was proud of his service and grateful that he was able to travel through so much of Europe while in the Army.

In 1960 Bill married Susan Selby and together they had four children.  In 1962 they moved to Fort Collins, CO so Bill could attend CSU. Bill graduated from CSU in 1968 with a Bachelors degree in Accounting and went on to obtain his CPA license. Bill worked in the Trust department at United Bank in Fort Collins from 1968-1973.  He began working for CSU overseeing the Library Services Accounting department in 1973 and retired in 1996.  Bill then began a second career in real estate working for Coldwell Banker and Remax Alliance. He enjoyed meeting and helping his clients find a home.

For many years Bill enjoyed riding both motorcycles and dirt bikes. He enjoyed being active with his kids exploring the mountains.  He especially enjoyed his trips to Lake Powell.  While raising his kids they lived on 12 acres in Fort Collins, raising quarter horses as well as looking after a variety of other animals.  Bill loved his animals and being outdoors.

Bill and Pat met through mutual friends at The Moot House in Fort Collins. They made a plan to go for a hike and out to dinner.   Bill would call Pat for a date and right away would say I am not interested in getting married. Pat assured him she wasn’t either. However, a few months later he asked her to marry him and they were married on October 15, 1994.

Bill and Pat were pet lovers. They both had a Cairn Terrier when they met and over the years enjoyed several more Cairns.  Bill loved all animals, through his life he was dedicated to the well being of animals.  He would feed any and all animals that found their way anywhere close to his home.  In addition to his dogs he loved tropical fish and maintained a koi pond.  Even in the last years of his life he and Pat wanted to save a rescue dog named Coco.  This 7 year old dog was a great companion for Bill.

Bill suffered from Dementia the last few of years of his life and in July 2022 went to The Aspens Memory Care in Fort Collins. He was loved by all of the staff and the staff even fell in love with Coco as Pat would bring him often for visits.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Claude. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat, children Greg (Dale) of Escondido, CA, Jeff (Paulette) of Ault, CO, Tracy of Loveland, CO, Sherri of Houston, TX, David Paulk (Ronalee) of Windsor, CO, Greg Paulk of Scottsdale, AZ, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

The Slack family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at The Aspens Memory Care for their loving care of Bill and to the compassionate nursing staff at Bristol Hospice.  Bill was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church serving as an usher for many years.  It was a great blessing to have the Redeemer Lutheran Church Care Ministry spend time with Bill while at The Aspens.
