Obituary for William H. Cook

William “Bill” Cook passed away peacefully on November 13, 2018 at the Medical Center of the Rockies. His gentle personality and sense of humor will be missed by many. Bill was born on June 26, 1933 in Mansfield, MA to Helen and Robert Cook. As a student, Bill commuted daily by train into Boston to attend high school and after graduating in 1951 moved to Denver, CO to attend Rockmont Bible College, today known as Colorado Christian University. It was there he met Beth “Betty” Allen and married, had two children, Dave Cook(1958) and DiAnne Smith(1961), both of Windsor, CO. Bill and Betty remained married until 1980.
Bill’s strong work ethic resulted in a wide range of jobs starting with Emery Air Freight at Denver’s Stapleton Airport, and later transferring to Salt Lake City International Airport. After five years in Salt Lake City, UT, Bill moved his family to Salida, CO where he worked for KVRH Radio. He wrote and recorded copy for the radio station and helped “Charlie and G.G.” at the Spartan sporting events. While in Salida, Bill served on the Salida City Council. In 1983 Bill met and married Juanita “Jo” Janezich eventually moving to Colorado Springs in 1990 and then to Denver in 2008 to be closer to family.
Bill was always an active member of the Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and served as choir director. He loved to read, play golf, watch sports, and remained an avid Denver Broncos and Boston Red Sox fan. Bill moved to Windsor, CO in 2015 after his wife passed away in 2014.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Frances), and wife (Juanita). He is survived by his children David Cook (Windsor, CO), DiAnne (Dave) Smith (Windsor, CO), stepdaughter Lori (Bryan) Herr (California), stepson Rob (Kat) Janezich (Denver, CO), six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Bill enjoyed gatherings with the Senior Community of Windsor, especially the Wednesday night dinners held at Faith United Church of Christ. In his honor, the family will host a free community dinner beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19th at the Faith United Church of Christ located at 1020 Walnut Street, Windsor, CO. Any donations will go to the Weld County Food Bank.
